Two silent heart conditions. One simple check, free, close to home.
After 75, aortic stenosis and inherited cholesterol often go unnoticed. The Love Your Heart Project helps older adults in Eastern Ontario and Western Quebec learn about them — and choose where to get checked.
What we do
Educate
Plain-language, bilingual education on valvular heart disease and dyslipidemia, for the public and for health professionals.
Identify
We train community pharmacists and primary care teams to recognize the people most likely to benefit from a heart check.
Connect
We help each person get to a care provider of their choice — their own doctor or nurse practitioner, a walk-in clinic, Quebec’s Guichet d’accès à la première ligne (GAP), a private clinic, or a partner hospital program.
Why it matters
3 to 5 %
of adults over 75 have aortic stenosis, the most common form of valvular heart disease — and most don’t know it.
1 in 5
About one in five people carry elevated lipoprotein(a), a genetic, lifelong cholesterol risk that is rarely tested.
OHIP · RAMQ
A stethoscope can raise suspicion of valvular disease; a blood test detects dyslipidemia; a painless heart ultrasound confirms when needed. These medically necessary tests are covered.
How it works
1
A pharmacist or member of your care team talks with you about your heart health.
2
You choose where you would like to be checked.
3
Your care provider does the check-up and follows you from there.
We are an independent foundation. We perform no medical acts, we sell nothing, and no sponsor has a say in what we teach.
